Who we are
Think waste education – think Earth Carers!
We help communities manage and reduce waste at home, school or work. There are Earth Carers programs in three of Perth's five Regional Councils.
This website is managed by the Western Metropolitan Regional Council for the western suburbs area (Towns of Claremont, Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Shire of Peppermint Grove and City of Subiaco). There are also Earth Carers programs in the Perth's Northern Suburbs through the Mindarie Regional Council click here and in the Eastern Suburbs through the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council click here.
How Earth Carers came to be
The Earth Carer Program was initially a WA Department of Environment and Conservation initiative based on the Earth Works programme from New South Wales. The programme was first trialled in 1998 in Cottesloe and Gosnells. In 2001, a 2-year trial commenced with the Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) administering the programme.
After a successful trial, the WMRC extended funding and continues to manage the program throughout Perth’s western suburbs on behalf of its Member Councils. The WMRC’s Western Earth Carers programme is funded by Member Council contributions from a gate fee at the JFR (Jim) McGeough Resource Recovery Facility in Shenton Park.In addition Earth Carers programs have been developed in Perth’s eastern and northern metropolitan regions.
Western Earth Carers
Western Earth Carers work to make good waste practices normal in Perth’s western suburbs. We are funded by WMRC Member Councils: Town of Claremont, Town of Cottesloe, Town of Mosman Park, Shire of Peppermint Grove, and City of Subiaco and provide waste and recycling education on their behalf.
